Frieda Steurs, full professor at KU Leuven, gave a stimulating talk revolving around “The Translator in a New Era“.
Her wealth of experience in knowledge and terminology management empowered us all with her advice to focus on quality, rather than speed and cost. After outlining some of the big challenges faced by companies, public services, training institutes, LSPs and research teams, she presented many technological solutions to be implemented in the translator’s workflow.
Knowledge management, which means “collecting and curating knowledge and connecting people to it so that they can effectively use it” – is first and foremost about source language management, an aspect that is too often disregarded.
